From the Chair of NZIPESA big thank you to all the teachers and schools who subscribed to our online resource service in 2008. Our organisation is entirely run by teachers for teachers and is non-profit making in every respect. Your school's support ensures that our service can continue. In 2009 we will be implementing a new registration process (similar to that used by NZASE). The procedure will be to go to the following website www.nzip.org.nz – click on Education section and from there follow the instructions to complete the online registration process. An invoice will be produced automatically and emailed through to you. Once we have received payment your username and password for 2009 will be emailed to the address you used on your subscription form. We are hoping this will improve efficiency and simplify matters for all parties. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Beverley Booker for all her help over the years. Beverley ran our registration system up to mid way through last year. We wish her well in her ‘retirement'. NZIP-Physikos Conference The biennial NZIP physics teachers' conference – Physikos will be held at the University of Canterbury from the 6 th to the 8 th of July this year. You will be able to find more details by checking on our main website www.nzip.org.nz Final costings have not been confirmed but they will be shortly. You can expect registration to be around $350 for full NZIP members. Put your applications in to your PD co-ordinators now to ensure you get funding for this event. Physikos conferences are always interesting and will provide plenty of exciting new ideas to ensure student engagement. NCEA – Curriculum Alignment Review I am sure most of you are aware that a review is currently taking place in relation to aligning all achievement and unit standards with the new curriculum. This review has very wide parameters and has the potential to make significant changes to the assessments undertaken by our students. The NZASE is responsible for the project and more details can be found at www.nzase.org.nz - I strongly encourage everyone to provide feedback on the suggested changes. David Housden
